What's in a name? And does the name of a person define their character?
Since his debut in 2002, Burridge has been making an impact in pro wrestling.
He started of as Baxter Burridge before adopting the King of Chavs gimmick shortly afterwards. As "The Pukka One" Darren Burridge, he made his reputation all over Europe and became the head trainer for Irish Whip Wrestling.
In 2006 he made his debut for 1PW and formed Team S.H.A.G with the future Scotty Goldman, Colt 'Boom Boom' Cabana. Also in that year, he faced future Ring of Honor champion Nigel McGuinness and had what many fans said was the best bout in the UK that year.
In 2007 Team S.H.A.G won the 1PW tag titles from FPW's Jonny Storm & Jody Fleisch, but would vacate the titles later on that year when Cabana signed for WWE.
With Cabana making money (well, not really) for Vince, Burridge once again had a steller run of matches with the likes of Delirious, Nigel McGuinness, 2 Cold Scorpio and James Tighe. It was during this run that he won the 1PW Openweight title. He would face Nigel again, who by this time was ROH champion, in an epic 45 minute time limit draw when both men had 4 pins a piece. Once again, this was a match of the year candidate.
Matches involving PAC and Abyss further cemented Burridge as a major UK star, he even appeared on RAW in the background during a skit, but injuries would stop him from making the jump to the US that competitors like Nigel McGuiness and Doug Williams did at this time.
Now fully healthy, this is a man who should be the number 1 contender for the FPW Heavyweight title. Hell, this is a man who could be a top contender to any singles title in the world. He's wrestled extensively all over the world, trained WWE wrestler Shamus and is the head trainer at the London School of Lucha Libra. Instead, he seems more content with hitting his opponents in the face with the fluffy dice attached to his pants.
Baxter. Darren. The Pukka One. The Cockney Crusader. Greg.
Will the real Burridge please stand up?
As always, it's been your pleasure...
'The Brain'
