1) How long have you been involved in professional wrestling and how did you first get started in the business? I’ve been in wrestling for nearly 2 years. Getting started was quite an abrupt decision, I’ve always loved wrestling and one morning I just woke up and decided that I was going to do it! I then started looking at schools and went from there
2) Where and with whom did you train? I started out with IPW under Tom Chamberlain and Jimmy Havoc and after a few months also began training at the London School of Lucha Libre with Greg Burridge and Garry Vanderhorne. I was lucky to have two very good schools within reach, and still go to both every week.
3) What do you remember about your first day of training – was it what you expected, how did you feel physically, what were the trainers like etc. I was nervous about my physical fitness ahead of my first session so decided to spectate at a session, but spent the whole time just wanting to join-in. I came back the next week to take part and remember everyone being very friendly and willing to help me out, which was great. The next day, I was very sore but couldn’t wait to do it again.
4) When you were starting out, what were your ambitions in wrestling?Pretty similar to what they are now – I wanted to be able to do pro-wrestling as a living and have a laugh doing it!
5) When did you have your first match, and how did it go? My first match in front of an audience was about a year ago, and was actually at a car-boot sale in the middle of nowhere, with about 20 people watching on. The match itself isn’t going to go down as one of the all-time classics but I was there with a good group of people and had good fun doing it, so it was by no means a disaster. I like to think things have picked up from there!
6) What do family and friends think of your career choice? Everyone has been really supportive, my family have definitely struggled to get to grips with what it is I’m doing and exactly why I’m doing it, but keep turning up to shows and supporting nonetheless! My friends outside of wrestling have really got behind it too and I think one or two of them are re-discovering a childhood love of wrestling!
7) Do you have another job outside of wrestling or is this what you consider your ‘main’ job? During the week, 9-5, I’m a project manager for a management consultancy firm in Windsor, which is a pretty stark contrast to pro-wrestling!
8) What are your feelings on the state of the wrestling business in the United Kingdom? It seems like it’s getting stronger and stronger at the moment. Hopefully this will continue and its popularity will keep growing – it would be great to see wrestling in the UK go some way to re-establishing its former standing.
9) When you are not training, travelling or wrestling, what do you do to relax? I really enjoy going to gigs and the cinema but more often than not, if I’m not training, wrestling or working I’m probably flaked out in front of the TV.
10) Finally, where do you see yourself in 2 years time? Hopefully still wrestling, over the last six months I seem to have been picking up a bit of momentum, so hopefully that continues and then…who knows?!
